Asheville - Ruth Culbertson Higdon, 88, went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 29, 2012. She was the loving wife of John Allen Higdon and ever loving mother of Mark Higdon and his wife, Cameron from Waynesville and Tom Higdon and his wife Patsy from Candler. John and Ruth just celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. Ruth was known as Ladybug during her childhood on Spring Creek and Hot Springs. She is the daughter of Bessie Lusk Culbertson and Dock Culbertson and has one surviving brother, Bill Culbertson of Hot Springs. She has two grandsons, Bradley and Stuart Higdon and four great grandsons, Kessler, Luke, Alexander and Harrison. Ruth went to school at Dorland Bell in Hot Springs and Warren Wilson College. She was a devoted helpmate to her husband in several family businesses, opening one of the first TV stations in Huntsville, Alabama as well as a newspaper, The Huntsville News. In later years many would have seen her at the Hickory Farms store at the Asheville Mall. Besides her family, Ruth's greatest love was her dachshunds Ladybug One and Ladybug Two. She was an active member of Biltmore United Methodist Church until she became home bound at her home in Biltmore Forest and recently at Silver Bluff Village in Canton. Ruth's family appreciated the excellent care and loving environment at Silverbluff. Graveside services will be held 2:30 PM Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Lewis Memorial Park with Pastor David Williams officiating. Friends may visit John at anytime at his residence at the Arrowhead Cove at Silverbluff Village in Canton. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity. "If you get there before I do, Don't give up on me. I'll meet you when my chores are through, I don't know how long I'll be. But I'm not gonna let you down, Darling, wait and see. And between now and then, Til I see you again, I'll be loving you."
