West Asheville Ruth Elizabeth Henderson Ricker, 94, of 9 Harvard Place, died peacefully on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. Mrs. Ricker was a native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, and a direct descendant of Joseph Marion Rice who settled in Buncombe County in 1782. She was the daughter of the late James Augustus Henderson and Ruth Elizabeth Hudgins Henderson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, S.R. Ricker who died September 2, 1997; daughter, Diane Ricker Mathews who died September 10, 2010; brothers, Clarence, Herman, Ben, Sel, Eckel and Mark Henderson and sisters, Gladys, Georgia and Jane. Ruth will be remembered for her contentment and joy in living, and her love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, her family, her home and all of Gods creations. Surviving are her daughter, Kathy Ricker Means of Asheville, son-in-law, Harold G. Mathews of Waynesville; grandson, Mark Mathews and wife Larissa; great grandson, Griffin Mathews all of Asheville and niece, Anne E. Murdock of Westminster, MD. Graveside services will be held at 1 PM Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory with Rev. Clark E. Henderson officiating. Memorials may be made to ones favorite charity. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. James D. Ladd, Internist, for his excellent care and wisdom in Ruths health care.
