Ruth E. Blazer

Woodfin - Ruth Eva Queen Blazer, 99, died Monday September 5, 2011 at the St. Joseph Campus. A native of Swain County, she had lived most of her life in Buncombe County. She was a member of Newbridge Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Henry Smith Queen and Charlotte "Lottie" Bradley Queen and the wife of the late Grover Cleveland Blazer who died October 17, 1990. She was also preceded in death by 2 sons, Paul and David Blazer and 3 grandchildren, Faith, Stephen and Brian Blazer. Surviving are her sons, Bobby Blazer and wife Mary of San Antonio, TX and Jack Blazer and wife Joyce of Candler; daughters, Nell Metcalf and husband Bernard of Asheville, Penny Best and husband Jerry of Canton and Jenny Penley and husband Jack of Asheville; 7 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. The family wishes to give a special thanks to her caregiver, Sharon Blaken. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at Newbridge Baptist Church with the Rev. Clark E. Henderson officiating. Burial will be in West Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at the church and at other times the family will be at her residence.
