Asheville Ruby Louise Waldrop Cassida, 70, of 95 Reynolds School Road died Tuesday, August 9, 2005 at Memorial Mission Hospital after a period of declining health. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she retired from Thoms Rehabilitation Center in 1998 as a dietary supervisor. She was a loving, caring mother and grandmother who loved NASCAR and the Atlanta Braves. She was a daughter of the late Fred Waldrop Sr. and Mary Arrowood Waldrop and the wife of the late Herbert Otis Hoppy Cassida. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Grady Waldrop. Surviving are her daughters, Teresa Moore of Asheville and Tammy Wallen of Hendersonville; son, Michael Cassida and wife Patti with whom she made her home; sister, Barbara Williams of Asheville; brothers, Paul Waldrop and wife Carline and Wayne Waldrop and wife Jeanette all of Flint, MI, Lester Waldrop and wife Marketta of Travelers Rest, SC and Fred Waldrop, JR and wife Dottie of Asheville; grandchildren, Brandie Landrum, Randy Wallen, Jr, Jason Moore, Jennifer Cassida, Kristie Wallen, Jerry Frisbee, JR, Brittany Cassida, Vincent Stroup and Stephen Stroup and 6 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Whitted officiating. Burial will be in Green Hills Cemetery with Carson Moore, Steve Davis, Bryan Banter, Randy Wallen, Jr, Lester Waldrop, Jr and Tony Waldrop serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 Thursday at the funeral home, and at other times the family will be at the home of her son, Michael Cassida, 95 Reynolds School Road, Asheville. Flowers are accepted and greatly appreciated.
