Arden - Ruble Vester Waldrup, 81, of Mulberry Drive died Wednesday February 19, 2003 at St. Josephs Hospital after a long illness. A native of Madison County, he attended Mars Hill High School and A-B Tech College. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and retired from Olin Paper Mfg. in Brevard in 1986 after 32 years of service. He was a member of Averys Creek United Methodist Church. He was a son of the late Clifford and Thelma Merrill Waldrup and was also preceded in death by a brother, Elwood. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Carole Chandler Waldrup of the home; Son, Charles Waldrup and wife Margaret of Chapel Hill; Daughter, Nancy W. Speagle and husband John of Blowing Rock; Grandson, Brian Waldrup of Chapel Hill; Granddaughter, Allison M. Speagle of Blowing Rock; Sisters, Carlene Frisby of Marshall, Aldeen Smathers of Weaverville, Luellen Costic of Virginia Beach, Va. and Luetta Gregg of Hendersonville as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Brenda Newman officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
