Roy Mcdowell

LEICESTER Roy McDowell, 83, of 182 Newfound Road passed away Saturday, April 3, 2010 at the St. Joseph Campus of Mission Hospitals. A native of Franklin, NC, he had resided in Buncombe County for the past 54 years. He retired in 1986 from T.V.A. as a Hydrolic Engineer following 32 years of service, was a member of Riverside Baptist Church, a member of Toastmasters Club, a member of the Mt. Hermon Masonic Lodge and was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. Mr. McDowell was a son of the late Jeter Elmer McDowell and Margaret Ester Kirby McDowell. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, George and Elmer McDowell. Surviving are his wife whom he married December 25, 1952, Edie Geneva Shelton McDowell of the home; daughters, Gwen Lusk (Gary) of Asheville and Donna Bowman (Dick) of Leicester; grandsons, Chris Lusk (Lindsey), Roy Lusk and Jeremy Bowman (Tonya); great grandchildren, Nolan Lusk, Molly Lusk and Riley Bowman; sisters, Tess Hanley of Stone Mtn, GA and Margaret Earls of Hickory; brother, Charlie McDowell of Highlands; several nieces and nephews including his special niece, Ann Roberts. Funeral services will be held 3 P.M. Monday at Newfound Baptist Church with Rev. Mark A. Ball and Rev. Bob Moon officiating. Burial will follow in Newfound Baptist Church Cemetery.
