Asheville - Roy Aubrey Deweese, Sr., 89, of 107 Fisher Lane, died Saturday July 13, 2002 in the Asheville V.A. Medical Center following a brief illness. A native of Union County, SC. He had resided in Central Florida for several years and had resided in Buncombe County most of his life. Mr. Deweese retired in 1978 as a plumbing inspector for Orange County, Fl, was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Alexander and was a W.W. II U.S. Navy veteran. He was a son of the late William Abram and Annie Jones Deweese. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Versa Harwood Deweese who died, July 5, 1996 and a son, Edward Franklin Deweese who died June 8, 1998. Surviving are his daughters, Betty Sprouse and husband, Fred of Asheville, Margaret Barfield and husband, James of Greensboro, FL and Jean Ward and husband, Carlton of Weaverville; sons, Bud Deweese of Knoxville, TN and Roy A. Deweese, Jr. and wife, Margaret of Greensboro, NC; sisters, Alfreda Smith and Juanita Wright both of Asheville; 10 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Sprouse officiating. Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. Pallbearers will be John Sprouse, Scott Fullbright, Tim Sprouse, Mike Erwin, Joe Sprouse and Bob Beadnell. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and at other times the family will be at his residence.
