Marshall William Roger Williams, Sr., 75, of 9 Buttercup Lane passed away Saturday, September 6, 2008 at his home. A native of Warren County, N.C., he had resided in Buncombe County the past 54 years. He retired as a Civil Engineer following 33 years of combined service with the State of N.C. and City of Asheville and was a member of Faith Independent Baptist Church for the past 15 years where he served as clerk. He was a 1951 graduate of John Graham High School in Warrenton, N.C. and was a Veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Williams was a son of the late Edward Owen Williams and Annie Mae Neal Williams and was also preceded in death by his brothers, Presley Williams and Edward Williams. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Tweed Williams, whom he married July 12, 1958, of the home; son, William Roger Williams, Jr. & wife, Cindy Turner Williams of Leicester; grandsons, Travis Williams & wife, Leslie, Dustin Williams & wife, Erica and Tristan Williams; great-grandchildren, Trevor (Little Pig), Lathan and Taylor; sister, Laura Mitchell of Graham; brother, Robert Williams of Tennessee; several nieces and nephews including a special nephew, John Cupp. He was known affectionately by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as Pop. Graveside services will be held 2 P.M. Sunday at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory with Rev. Phillip Wilson officiating. Mr. Williams family wishes to thank their family, friends and church families for their love and support during his illness. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Williams Family. Anders-Rice Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
