Marshall – Roger Earl McPeters, 73, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at Mission Hospital.
A native of Buncombe County, he resided in Madison County since 2002. He retired in 2008 following 20 years of service with the Buncombe County Sheriff's Department/ID Bureau, was a 1969 graduate of Lee H. Edwards High School and a US Air Force Vietnam veteran.
He was known for his sincere love of the joys in his life: his wife of 34 years, his guitar and music, his love of his country, his time in the military and fellow airmen who stayed loyal friends for over 50 years, and especially his grandchildren and his German Shepherd.
He was the son of the late Clyde William McPeters and Gertrude Louise Holcombe McPeters and husband of Sheila Gail Teague McPeters who died August 9, 2007. Brother to late Ronald Lewis McPeters and Brenda Robinson.
Surviving are his daughters: Shannon McPeters Johnson (Dale) of Sylva NC and Melissa McPeters Herzog (Greg) of Chapel Hill NC; grandchildren: Ashley Smith Jonas (Jonathan) of Utah, Hannah Marie Smith of Candler NC, Emily Gail Herzog of New York, Ethan Gregory Herzog of Chapel Hill NC; and great granddaughter, Luna Isabella Jonas.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, November 24, 2024, in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, 1428 Patton Ave, Asheville, NC. Burial will follow at Redmon Baptist Church Cemetery, with military honors conducted by Shaw Air Force Base.
The family will receive friends from 1 till 2 PM Sunday prior to services at the funeral home.
