Roger Dale Prather

June 3, 1948 — July 13, 2008

ASHEVILLE Roger Dale Prather, 60, died Sunday, July 13, 2008 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospital with his family surrounding him. He was a native of McDowell County. He was a son of the late Lewis and Mildred Buchanan Prather. He was also the grandfather of the late Aidan Issac Prather, a brother of the late Jill Prather Arnold and the late Gene Prather. He retired from Superior Modular Products in 1996 due to a kidney disease. Although he lost his kidney transplant in 1999, he fought a hard and courageous battle and he never gave up. He is survived by his wife, Judith E. Prather of Asheville; sons, Michael D. Prather and wife, Carolyn and Mark T. Prather and girlfriend, Jamie; granddaughters, Ashtin and MyKal-Hana Prather; brothers, Jerry Prather and wife, Barbara of Morganton and their families and Reggie (Buddy) Prather and wife, Marie of Marion and their families. He leaves behind a special love for his nephew, Anthony Arnold of Greensboro, as they reunited last July after 33 years. He also leaves behind his special little buddies, LaLa, his quaker Parrot and Butler, his kitten. Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Wednesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Justin Deaton officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites to be conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Memorial Team. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. A Memorial service will be held 6 P.M. Sunday at the First Freewill Baptist Church in Marion. The family would like to thank all the Doctors and Nurses that took care of him over the years.
