Robert Neil Smith

Asheville Robert Neil Smith, 63, of 24 Collins Mountain Drive, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, March 30, 2005 at his residence. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a member of Georgetown Baptist Church and retired from the VA Medical Center. Mr. Smith was also a US Army veteran. He was the son of the late Robert Randolph and Vegie Caroline Hipps Smith, and the widower of Mildred Jesse Smith, who passed away April 29, 2003. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Aileen White. Surviving are his step-children: Bobby Crowder, Jimmy Crowder, Johnny Crowder, Ricky Crowder, and Patti C. Owen; a special grandson, Gary Owen; a sister, Revonda S. Haney and husband Carmon of Leicester; two brothers: William Rex Smith and wife Barbara of Leicester, and Glenn W. Smith and wife Rosalee of Candler; a brother-in-law, Carl White of Asheville; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday at Green Hills Cemetery, with the Rev. Lee Davis officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
