Robert Conner

Candler - Robert George Conner, 83, of 290 Oak Hill Road passed away Friday, February 18, 2011 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County. He retired in the early 90s from Gerber Products following 30 years of service and had become Chief Steward of the AFLCIO Union while at Gerber. He was a member of Cedar Hill F.W. Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Conner was the son of the late James Hobart and Augusta Beachboard Conner and husband of Margaret Ann Grooms Conner who died December 1, 1971. He was also preceded in death his brothers, Jimmy Conner and Burnice Conner and sister, Maggie Lunsford. Surviving are his son, Terry Bobby Conner and wife Susie of Candler; grandchildren, Kellie, Andrew, Bryce, Tyler, Chase L., Chase R. and Destiny; great grandsons, Zane and George Mason; sister, Mamie Mashburn of Asheville and good friend, Peggy Moss of Asheville. Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Sunday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Mashburn and Terry Bobby Conner (son) officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill F.W. Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 to 9 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
