Robert Charles "Charlie" Lanning

Asheville - Robert Charles Charlie Lanning, 90, of 100 Riceville Rd. and formerly of 178 Louisiana Ave. passed away Monday, October 30, 2006 at The Laurels of Summit Ridge. A native of Henderson County, he resided in Asheville most of his life. Mr. Lanning was the son of the late William Baxter and Josephine Corn Lanning. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years Lillian Calloway Lanning who died January 22, 2006; sister, Ruth Melton; 3 grandchildren, Sheila and Chuck Smith and Clint Burris and 2 son-in-laws, Charles D. Smith, Sr. and Donald E. Quakenbush. Surviving are his ten children, Patsy Smith, Doris Quakenbush, Charles Lanning and wife Barbara, Susie Roseborough and husband Carl, Nancy Burris and husband Ronnie, Joyce Moulds and special family friend Jeff Moulds, Debbie Lanning, Kathy Lanning, Jim Lanning and wife Judy and Sharon Anders and husband Wayne; sister, Mary Lanning Testerman; 21 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Green Hills Cemetery with Rev. Jeff Rhew officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home. The family wishes to give a special thanks to the 200 Hall at The Laurels of Summit Ridge for the love and care of Pop Lanning for the past 6 years.
