Asheville - Robert Alfred Gibbs, 84, of 27 Frankie Lane, died Monday July 9, 2007 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. A native and resident of Buncombe County for most of his life,he attended Aaron Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and received the Purple Heart. He was a son of the late Samuel Easmon Gibbs and Jennie Evelyn Hollifield Gibbs Pike and the step son of the late Carl Baxter Pike. He was the husband of the late Mary Frances Fox Gibbs. He was also preceded in death by a son, Michael Dean Gibbs and brothers, Talmadge Tuff Gibbs and Everette Ham Pike. Surviving are his daughters, Rebecca Lee of Asheville, Patricia White and husband Weldon of Asheville and Debra Barnes and husband Samuel of Candler; sons, Larry Gibbs and wife Rhenae of Wendell and William Gibbs of Asheville; brothers, Albert and Elbert Pike both of Asheville; 16 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Pastor Daniel Stephenson officiating. Burial will be in the Gibbs Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
