Richard Adam Curenton

June 25, 1951 — April 8, 2008

Asheville - Richard Adam Curenton, 56, of 94 East Skyland Circle, went to be with his gracious Heavenly Father Tuesday - April 8, 2008 at Memorial Mission Hospital. A native of Union, SC, he resided in Buncombe County for the past 40 years. He was a member of Corinth Baptist Church where he sang in the choir, was an usher and was a member of the Mens Sunday School class. He worked with the City of Asheville in the Sanitation Department, was an ASA umpire for 30 years and the Richard A. Curenton Softball Field was named after him. He was on dialysis for 18 years and served as a patient representative for dialysis patients. He was a son of the late Beatrice Curenton and was raised by his grandparents, Ernest and Lou Curenton and was also preceded in death by his twin brother, Reuben Curenton. Surviving are his wife, Sharolyn Cartwright Curenton of the home; son, Donnie Curenton of Asheville; daughters, Casandra Curenton of Asheville and Kim Hicks of Atlanta, GA; brother, Tommy Curenton of Weirton, WV; special aunt, Hattie Belle Smith of Asheville and 5 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Joel Burton and Rev. Ricky Townsend officiating. Burial will be in the Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery with Mike Ball, Doug Metcalf, Mark Holstead, Brian Garren, Larry Harris and Gary Willis serving as pallbearers and ASA Umpire Association umpires serving as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 P. M. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to: Corinth Baptist Church, c/o Rev.
