Rev. Jennis Sluder

June 25, 1921 — March 7, 2006

Weaverville Rev. Jennis Paul Sluder, 84, of 195 Murphy Hill Road and formerly of 4435 Cedar Creek Road, Greenville, TN went to be with his Lord Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at his residence. A native and resident of Buncombe County for most of his life, he had resided in Greenville, TN for 9 years. He was a WW II U.S. Army veteran and served in the Timberwolf Division. Rev. Sluder retired from the N.C. State Highway Department following 22 years of service. He was ordained in the French Broad Ministers Conference as a Baptist Minister and pastored many churches including his home church of Mountain View F.W. Baptist Church where he was a Deacon. He was a son of the late Rev. Ervin Daniel Sluder and Hester Deweese Sluder and husband of his loving wife of 53 years, Stella Lee Brown Sluder who died in 1995. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Robert, Donald and George Sluder and sister, Lois Nesbitt. Rev. Sluder was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a man that was loved by all. Surviving are his son, Dean Sluder and wife, Margaret of Leicester; daughters, Rita Lankford and husband, Randy and Alice Sprouse and husband, Lee all of Weaverville; lady friend, Geneva Thomas of Erwin, TN; grandchildren, Nelson and Kelly Sluder, Beverly Maybin, Cindy Coffey, Vicki Ball, Emilee Loewecke and Alison and Rachel Sprouse; 13 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; sisters, Bonnie Alexander and Margaret Ponder both of Weaverville brothers, Joe Sluder of Weaverville and Elbert Sluder of Fletcher and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2 pm Saturday at Mountain View F.W. Baptist Church with the Revs Anthony Fox, Burrell Ledford, Archie Cook and and Larry Coates officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery with graveside rites conducted by Rev. Jim Shoupe and Rev. Eugene Duyck officiating and military rites conducted by the Clyde A. Erwin High School JROTC. Pallbearers will be his grandson and great grandsons. Flower girls will be his grand daughters and great grand daughters. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Friday at the church and at other times at his residence. Flowers are appreciated, however, for those that wish memorials may be made to Mountain View F.W. Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, % Elmer Parham, 428 Ridgeview Rd., Leicester, N.C. 28748.
