Asheville - Rev. James Andrew Jim Allen, Jr., of 126 Wilde Brook Dr. died Tuesday, December 2, 2003 at Mission Hospitals following a brief illness. He was a native of Buncombe County and a resident for most of his life. Rev. Allen attended Brevard College and Carson Newman College. He was a retired Baptist Minister having served as pastor of State Street Baptist Church in Asheville, Big Springs Baptist Church in Elizabethton, TN, Duncans Chapel Baptist Church in Elizabethton, Hunter Baptist Church in Elizabethton, Rittertown Baptist Church in Hampton, TN, Antioch Baptist Church in Johnson City, TN, New Morgan Hill Baptist Church in Candler, Phaniels Baptist Church in Rockwell, NC, and Grace Baptist Church in Kannapolis, NC. Rev. Allen was a member of New Morgan Hill Baptist Church and was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was the son of the late James Andrew and Maude Ester Holcombe Allen, Sr. He was also preceded in death by a son, Larry James Allen. Surviving are his wife, Geraldine Geri Lee Allen of the home; sons, Phil Allen and wife Helen of Asheville and Audie Allen of Oak Island, NC; grandchildren, Cindy Klutz, Missy Smith, Brandon Allen, Bryan Allen, and Shawn Allen; great grandchildren, Zachary and Nathan Klutz, Tanner Smith, Tyler Allen and Madison Allen. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Thursday at New Morgan Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Roy Houston officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Mike Klutz, Greg Smith, Zachary Klutz, Mike Allen, Brandon Allen, and Bryan Allen. Honorary pallbearers will be Tanner Smith and Nathan Klutz. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 PM Wednesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to New Morgan Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, 370 Lake Dr., Candler, NC 28715.
