Asheville - Rev. Howard James Rogers, 75, of 190 Farm Rd., died Wednesday, July 17, 2002 at his residence following a period of declining health. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Dewey George and Jeanettie Buckner Rogers. He was an Army Veteran of WW II and a member of New Liberty Baptist Church where he had served as Pastor for 34 years. Surviving are his wife, Helen Haney Rogers of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Don Freeman of Leicester, Pat and Willis Henson of Alexander, Linda and David Whitaker of Asheville; sister, Lillie Mae Wilkes of Asheville; brothers, Kenneth Ledbetter Rogers of Leicester, and Hubert Albert Rogers of Alexander; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Friday at New Liberty Baptist Church. Revs. Garry Rogers and Brad Parker will officiate with burial following in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Greg Freeman, Todd Henson, Chad Freeman, Trent Henson, and Seth Whitaker and nephew, Larry Rogers. His family will receive friends 7-9:00 p.m. Thursday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home, where Rev. Rogers will remain until being placed into the church 30 min. prior to the service.
