Rev. Edward Lee "Ed" Mcelrath

Asheville - Rev. Edward Lee McElrath, 76, of 144 White Pine Drive died Thursday, December 27, 2001 at Memorial Mission Hospital following a period of declining health. A native of Haywood County, he had resided in Asheville for the past several years. He was an ordained minister and a World War II veteran having served in the United States Navy. He was a son of the late William Earl McElrath, Sr. and Nettie Estelle Compton McElrath. Surviving are his wife, Marjorie Elaine Wright McElrath of the home; son, Samuel Earl McElrath; daughters, Stephanie Jane Brigman, Mary Frances Vashon, Barbara Jean Zambelli, Roxanna Lee Dove, Sherrill Lynn Lehack, Becky Ann Doody; step-son, Sammy Lee Ferguson; step-daughter, Marjorie Ann Sandry; sisters, Ann Elizabeth Casey, Barbara Jean Warren, Judith Gayle Hobson; brothers, William Earl McElrath, Jr., Howard Ray McElrath; 12 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesville with the Revs Billy Cline and Tom Lomax officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following services at the cemetery. Memorials may be made to Merrimon Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund, 283 Merrimon Ave., Asheville, N.C. 28801. Anders-Rice Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
