ALEXANDER Rev. Denver Tony Haney, 87, of 55 Jenkins Valley Road passed away Monday, March 22, 2010 at the St. Joseph Campus of Mission Hospitals. A native and resident most of his life of Buncombe County. He retired in 1985 from Square D following over 20 years of service and formerly was employed with 20th Century Heating & Cooling for 20 years, was a life long member of French Broad Baptist Church and formerly Pastored Easter Gap Baptist Church in Madison County. He was a U.S. Army WWII veteran, having served in the European Theatre where he was a recipient of the Service Medal with two Bronze Stars - Good Conduct Medal and WWII Victory Medal. Mr. Haney was a son of the late Charlie Everette Haney and Pearl Buckner Haney. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Laney and daughter-in-law, Linda Haney. Surviving are his wife of 62 years whom he married March 27, 1948, Helen Lucille Meadows Haney of the home; son, Rev. Dean Haney of Alexander; grandchildren, Chris Laney (Lisa), Steven Laney, Sarah Shelton (Mathew) and Aaron Haney (Chelsey); great grandchildren, Kennedy, Reagan and Ava; sisters, Wilma Taylor and Helen Rogers both of Asheville; brothers, Rev. Everette C. Haney, Jr. (Nell) of Asheville, Earl Haney (Henrietta) of Weaverville and Don Haney (Shirley) of Asheville; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Thursday at French Broad Baptist Church with Rev. Ronnie Malone, Rev. Everette C. Haney, Jr. and Rev. Ralph Reemes officiating. Burial will follow in French Broad Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friend 7 to 9 P.M. Wednesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home.
