Rev. Darrell Mcclaren

August 4, 1947 — August 20, 2021

Asheville – With great sadness we must say goodbye to our Beloved Pastor Darrell McClaren. He was more than our minister; he was our friend, mentor, General of the faith and an incredible husband to his wife Sandy McClaren for over 32 years. Brother Darrell was born in Oklahoma City, OK on August 4, 1947 and in 1962 moved to Asheville along with his parents, the late Rev. Boyd and Virginia McClaren to start a church full of the Holy Spirit. He graduated in 1965 from TC Roberson High School and continued to help his parents in ministry until the Lord called him into full time ministry and preached his first revival in Canton at the age of 24. He knew at that time ministry was his calling. Rev. McClaren traveled and served as an evangelist for over 20 years preaching the gospel in the United States, Canada, Israel and Africa and was known as the NC Assembly of God Evangelist for many years. He also was a Tent Evangelist, serving numerous communities throughout the United States. He saw miracles, salvations and deliverance, and thousands were touched because of this mighty man of God. He was one of the greatest Hammond Organ players in the world, having played for many well known people but his greatest love was playing for the Lord. He wrote most of his songs and recorded over 7 record albums. Pastor Darrell was an awesome pastor at Harvest Time Assembly of which he and his wife, Sandy started on August 27, 1995 as he wanted a place for people of every color and race to come together to worship God and grow spiritually together. Pastor Darrell and Sandy also started Praise in the Park downtown in 2010, as they wanted to expand and take the Gospel outside the church building and into the city. He loved his church family, pastoring and always challenged his people to grow and receive every spiritual gift God has for them. The world has become a better place with Pastor Darrell’s ministry, music and the love of God he has shared for almost 50 years. “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, and I have kept the faith.” II Timothy 4:7. We who have been touched by your life will see you one day again in our heavenly home. We love you man of God! Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, August 28, 2021 at the Harvest Time Assembly, 225 Summit Street, Asheville, NC 28803. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Enka. Pastor McClaren will lie in state from 9:30 to the service hour Saturday at the church. Flowers are appreciated, however, for those that wish, memorials may be made in his honor to: Harvest Time Assembly, 225 Summit Street, Asheville, NC 28803. The family respectfully ask that facial mask be worn and social distancing observed.
