Alexander - Rev. Boyd Haynes, 86, of 394 Fletcher Martin Road, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at the Brian Center in Weaverville following an extended illness. A native of Buncombe County, Rev. Haynes spent most of his life involved in church work. He was an associate pastor for a time at Forge Valley Baptist Church, a member of Cedar Hill Missionary Baptist Church and worked in various other churches in Henderson and Buncombe Counties. Rev. Haynes retired from the VA Hospital in Oteen, was a World War II veteran who served in the South Pacific. Rev. Haynes was the son of the late Arthur and Arizona Burleson Haynes. Surviving are his wife of 61 years: Clora Edwards Haynes; two sons: Rev. Gary Boyd Haynes and wife Kay of Alexander and Craig Lee Haynes and wife Debbie of Candler; daughter, Rhonda Clevenger and husband Charles of Cedarville, OH; grandchildren: Bryan, Brent, Christopher, and Mathew Haynes, Carla Shank, and Courtney Clevenger; great-grandchildren: Savanna Hawkins, and Alley & Marty Shank; brothers: Harlan Haynes of Fletcher, Herrold Haynes of Florida, Boyce Haynes of Little Switzerland, Adger Haynes of Horse Shoe, Robert Haynes of Hendersonville, and Graham Haynes of Rutherfordton; sisters: Marion Haynes Horton of Atlanta, GA and Wilma Haynes Conner of Old Fort; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Friday in Cedar Hill Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Joe Sellars and Rev. Dean Haney officiating. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory, with military graveside honors conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Thursday evening at Anders-Rice Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Brian Center of Weaverville, 78 Weaver Blvd, Weaverville, NC 28787, or to the Center for Infectious Disease, Atlanta, GA 30333.
