Candler - Louis Ray Travis departed life at the John F. Keever Solace Center on Sunday, April 23, 2017. His beloved wife, Edith Elkins Travis, left us peacefully eight days later on May 1, 2017. Ray and Edith grew up as neighbors, went to school and church together, married early, remained married and devoted to one another for seventy-six years, and strolled out of earthly life hand-in-hand. Ray retired from American Enka as an industrial engineer. Edith retired from John Carroll as an office manager. Edith spent almost all of her life serving faithfully as her churchs organist, and later singing in her choir. Left to celebrate their lives are their son, Louis Kent Travis; granddaughter, Monica Alper (Berat); and five grandchildren. A Gathering of Celebration will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Mills River Presbyterian Church, 10 Presbyterian Church Road, Mills River, NC. All who knew and loved them are welcome to attend.
