Peggy B. Calhoun

March 16, 1941 — March 5, 2013

Asheville Peggy Louetta Birmingham Calhoun, 71, of 9 Midwood Drive, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at her home. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was a long time member of Cumberland Avenue Baptist Church. Her life was about serving the Lord faithfully, praying for and loving all those who crossed her path and working ceaselessly to touch and inspire the lives of children, with God inspired values and character. Her greatest joys were her years spent teaching children in Sunday School, and then later, inspiring in heaping love upon all her grandchildren. Aunt Peggy will be missed by so many for so long. Mrs. Calhoun was the daughter of the late Clarence Howard Birmingham and Mary Lou Etta McAbee Birmingham. Surviving are her husband, Norman Louis Calhoun of Asheville; son, Kevin Calhoun of Leicester; Bryian Taylor of Asheville (a special blessing in her life); grandchildren, Katherine, Morgan, Caleb, Greyson, Gaige, Brooklynn, and Karaghan; brothers, Clarence Boozer Birmingham of Asheville, Richard Birmingham and wife Judy and her beloved RB all of Mason, TN and Sam McAbee and wife Ann of Woodfin. Peggy had so many other special friends and blessings in life, especially her rock of friendship, Lillian Stewart and her daughters, Vickie, Lesa and Carrie. Funeral Services will be held 2 PM Friday, March 8, 2013 at Crosspoint Community Church, formerly Cumberland Avenue Baptist Church with Pastor Earl Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM Friday at the church.
