Pauline Davis Varelas

December 18, 1944 — July 11, 2018

Pauline Davis Varelas, 73, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 11, 2018, after a short stay at the Laurels of Summit Ridge. Originally of Swain County, NC, she resided with her beloved husband of 28 years in Mooresville, NC before moving to Buncombe County. Mrs. Varelas loved God, her family, nature, flowers, and music. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She had many talents including being a potter and horticulturist. She was a daughter of the late Vestal Davis and Lois Estep Davis. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dimetri John Varelas, who passed away on April 14, 2018; and brother, Elmer Davis. She is survived by her sons: Kenny Sawyer and wife Janie of Asheville, and Dean Alan Sawyer of Asheville; granddaughters: Alyssa Justine Sawyer, Sarah Ann Sawyer, and Samantha Lou Sawyer; great-grandson, Aiden; sisters: Mary Alice Shook and husband Ron of Asheville, and Katherine Varelas and husband Vasili of Orlando, FL; brother, Monroe Davis and wife Gladys of Aquone; sisters-in-law: Karen Davis of Greenville, SC, and Angela Angel Varelas of Carson, CA; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Memorial services will be held at 5:00 PM Saturday, July 14, 2018, in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 4 till 5 PM on Saturday at the funeral home.
