Candler - Opal Kathryn Trull Barnes, 92, of 305 Big Cove Road, died Sunday, November 28, 2004 in the Mountain Area Hospice Solace Center following a period of declining health. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County She was a retired School Teacher with 45 years of service and a former Principal with 10 years of service, all in the Buncombe County School System. Mrs. Barnes was a member of Mt. Moriah Wesleyan Church where she was a former member of the church choir, WMS, active in the youth of the church and former church pianist. She was the daughter of the late James Otis Trull and Clyda Trull Coyne and the wife of the late Thurman Roger Barnes. Surviving are her daughter, Kathryn Smathers of Candler; her son, Clyde H. Barnes and wife, Wanda of Candler; two sisters; Chetta Warjonen of Candler and Margaret T. Barnes of Candler; a brother, J.B. Trull of Candler; five grandchildren: Marty, Mindy, Misty, Brian and Eugene; and four generations of her family. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Thursday at Mt. Moriah Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Ben Thomas, Rev. Paul Mullinax and Rev. Edsel Burgess officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home and at other times at the home of her sister, Margaret T. Barnes, 301 Big Cove Road, Candler.
