Asheville – Norman Stone Pruitt, born December 5, 1936, went home to be with his Lord and family on Saturday, December 19, 2020. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late David Jack Pruett and Hariette Grace Pruitt. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Helen Joanne Pruitt, who passed away on January 15, 2019; son, Norman “Normie” Pruitt; sisters: Jewel McKinney, and Mary Lou Staples; brothers: David J. Pruitt, and William Ray Pruitt. Mr. Pruitt served in the U.S. Army and later worked for the City of Asheville for many years. He was a race car driver at the Asheville Speedway, and a mechanic and long-haul truck driver. He enjoyed hiking on the Appalachian Trail and watching NASCAR Races. Surviving are his children: Jack Pruitt (Darcy) of Fairview, Kevin K.P. Pruitt (Rose) of Enka, Susie Baxter (Kent) of Oakley, Lisa McKenna (Patrick) of Fletcher, and Brenda Haney (Steve) of Waynesville. Seven wonderful grandchildren: Erin Reece (Brandon), Steven Haney, Jesse Haney (Michelle), Shelby Bakken (Jonathan), Candace Searcy (Kevin), P.J. McKenna, and Kelly McKenna. Twelve special great-grandchildren: Karson, Savannah, John, JR, Ethan, Walker, Makenna, Ada, Kai, Emmy, Leddi, and Harper; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 4 PM Tuesday, December 22, 2020, in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home. Military Honors will be conducted by the N.C. National Guard Honor Guard.
