Nora L. Sparks

Asheville - Eleanor Nora L. Sparks, 78, of 127 Pennsylvania Avenue, passed away Thursday, August 10, 2006 at the St. Joseph Campus of Mission Hospitals following a period of declining health. A native of Yancey County, Nora had resided in Buncombe County since 1950. She retired from American Enka with 47 years of service. She was a member of Asheville Wesleyan Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Nora was the daughter of the late Geter and Clara Robinson Ledford, and the widow of J.D. Sparks, who passed away in 1992. She was also preceded in death by two brothers: Stanley and Wayne Ledford. Surviving are her daughter, Cathy Dover and husband Dick of Travelers Rest, SC; son, Wendell Sparks and wife Cindi of Asheville; five grandchildren: Laura Teague, Shannon Huff, Sarah Sparks, Nicholas Sparks, and Wendell Sparks, Jr.; great-grandson, Robert Bo Huff; sisters: Doris Hooper and husband Raymond of Greenville, SC, and Evelyn Turner of Morristown, TN; brothers: Ward Ledford and wife Gloria of Fairview and Lawrence Ledford and wife Ann of Leicester; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
