Nettie Metz

Barnardsville Nettie Lee Burrell Metz, 85, known affectionately as Granny Metz, went to be with her Lord Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at the St. Joseph Campus of Mission Hospitals. Mrs. Metz was a native and resident of Buncombe County. She was a loving wife, mother and homemaker, was a member of Piney Mtn Baptist Church and was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post #891 where she volunteered many hours in love and recognition for her husband and sons military service. Mrs. Metz was the daughter of the late E.F. Burrell and Mary Jane Phillips Burrell and wife of William Levi Metz who died November 18, 1991. Surviving are her son, Paul E. Crowder of Columbia, S.C.; daughters, Deborah Crowder of Wilmington, Sharon Crowder of Fletcher, Carolyn Hensley of Asheville and Jane E. Melton of Hendersonville; 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and special neighbor and friend, Steve Adams. Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Friday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Pisgah View Memorial Park with Rev. Steve Freeman officiating. The family will receive friends 10 to 11 A.M. Friday at the funeral home.
