Nellie Mae Bishop

August 27, 1925 — July 12, 2002

Asheville - Nellie Mae West Bishop, 76, of 240 Waynesville Ave., died Friday July 12, 2002 at Mountain Area Hospice. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County. She was a homemaker and was a member of Westwood Baptist Church. Mrs. Bishop was a daughter of the late Bill S. and Minnie Sue Austin West. She was the wife of the late Euel Oley Bishop who died September 9, 1999 and mother of the late James Bishop who died in 1997. Surviving are her daughters, Sue Jones of Black Mountain, Pat Cothran and Jean Cogdill both of Asheville, Linda Effler of Arden, Betty Cannon of Marion, Alice Webb of Old Fort and Cathy Greenway of Swannanoa; sons, Bobby Bishop, Randy Bishop, David Bishop and Larry Bishop all of Asheville and Chris Bishop of Swannanoa; sisters, Maude Ramsey and Ruth Bailey both of Toccoa, GA and Elsie Taylor of Pasadena, TX; 41 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren 7 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and special friends Betty Hamlin, Edith and Jim Lamb, Dot and Earl Smith and a special thank you to Dr. Charles Murray and his staff. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy McFalls officiating. Burial will be in Green Hills Cemetery. Her family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, P.O. Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
