Nell M. Haney

January 25, 1931 — May 7, 2017

Asheville Nellie Nell Ann Meadows Haney, 86, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at her home. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she retired from Square D following 26 years of service and was a member of Freedom Baptist Church where she was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class. Everyone loved Mamaws corn, as she was affectionately known by, and she loved to play Bingo, watching the Atlanta Braves and the beach. Mrs. Haney was a daughter of the late Roy Clyde Meadows and Dessie Mae Hagan Meadows. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Robbie Austin, Dora Sluder, Pearl Parham, Lucille Haney; twin brother & sister, Roy Clyde Meadows, Jr. and Ula Mae Meadows and brother, Charles (Jabo) Meadows. Surviving are her husband whom she married August 11, 1950, Everette C. Haney, Jr. of the home; daughter, Sandra E. Haney of the home; son, Timothy A. Haney and wife Jackie of Alexander; sister, Cathern Robinson of Alexander; grandson, Nicholas Haney and wife Jenny of Leicester; granddaughter, Bridget King and husband Kevin of Alexander; great grandchildren, Savannah, Emma, Mia, Ella, Rayley and Jace and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, May 10, 2017 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Rogers, Rev. Dr. Keith Hutchinson and Rev. James Hutchinson officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Nick Haney, Kevin King, Dean Haney, Roger Clement, Jeff Ford and David Atkinson. Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Robinson, Jerry Bowers, Robert Johnson, James Leeper, J.D. Harris, Mike Robinson, Bruce Sluder and Jerry Sluder. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. A special thanks to her caretakers, Jerri, Martha, Shelia and Amanda and her special nurse, Berta and friend, Judy.
