Nannie Meadows Thomas

Asheville - Nannie Berthina Meadows Thomas, 99, of 466 Old County Home Road died Thursday, June 29, 2006 at Aston Park Health Care Center following a period of declining health. A native of Spring Creek Community of Madison County, she had resided in Buncombe County since 1935. Mrs. Thomas was a daughter of the late Burgin Cemore Meadows and Mollie Hipps Meadows and the wife of Fred Hampton Thomas who died July 28, 1982. She was also preceded in death by her 10 brothers and sisters, Doctor, Maggie, Hard, Romain, Burgin, Dot, Bill, Ada, Bonnie and Tom. Mrs. Thomas was the former owner and operator of Meadows Dry Goods where she served the community at that location from 1949 to 2004. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a former member of the Ladies Auxilliary Fire Department at West Buncombe. Surviving are her daughter, Molly Braswell and husband, Terry of Asheville; grandchildren, Tom Braswell and wife, Patrice, Doug Braswell, Mike Braswell and wife, Karen all of Asheville and Teresa Jamison and husband, Mike of Raleigh; great grandchildren, Luke, Rebekah, Aaron, Mollie, Elizabeth, Matthew and Ry; sister, Martha Fisher of Enka. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Welborn officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
