Myrtle B. Ramsey

July 31, 1906 — December 28, 2005

West Asheville Myrtle Bell Briggs Ramsey, 99, of 6 Wilburn Road, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at her residence following a period of declining health. A native of Yancey County she had resided in Buncombe County since 1943. She was the daughter of the late Willard Kimsey Briggs and Darcas Jane Wilson Briggs and the wife of Arnold Earl Ramsey who died May 13, 1980. She was also preceded in death by her three sons, Bruce Ramsey, Gerald Ramsey and Paul Ramsey. Mrs. Ramsey, along with her late husband, was the owner and operator of Five Points Coal Co. and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church on Middle Fork in Madison County. Surviving are her daughter, Virginia Hall of Ft. Worth, TX; sons, Cecil Ramsey of Asheville and Rex Ramsey of Atlanta, GA; 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 1 great -great grandson. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. John T. Tiller officiating. Burial will be in Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
