Moses Elwood Mccain

Moses Elwood McCains story begins on April 28, 1930 to the predeceased Eddie James and Rosie Mae McCain of Reidsville, North Carolina. Moses received his formal education in Reidsville, North Carolina and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School upon receiving his academic diploma. He ventured to New York where he sought employment and began working as a machine cutter at Modern Bias Binding Company in Manhattan. In April of 1951, Moses was drafted in the US Army during the Korean War. He obtained his infantry training at Fort Benning, Georgia. He served with the 89th Airborne Field Artillery Battalion and was decorated with a parachute badge before separating from the US Army in 1953. Upon returning to New York, Moses began working with the New York City Transit Authority. He worked many years as a Motorman. While living in the Bronx, he met the love of his life, Helen Olivia Patterson. After courting for some time, the two wed on January 3, 1954 in Manhattan, New York. In 1955, became a devoted Jehovahs Witness. On February 20, 1960, Moses and Helens beloved daughter Regina was born. Moses and Helen showered their love on their only child. Regina married Daniel Thomas and of that union, Aaron L. Thomas and Ashley R. Thomas were conceived. Moses and Helen inherited an entire extended family that grew to love and cherish them both. After his wifes untimely death, Moses moved to Lebanon, Tennessee in 2005 to be closer to his daughter and grandchildren. He accomplished everything he set his mind to do. Moses planted a garden, harvested bees, built a huge storage shed by hand, and assisted in the construction of the Kingdom Hall in Lebanon, TN. In September 2012, Moses suffered the loss of his daughter Regina Thomas. He returned to his home state of North Carolina where his continued faith and service to Jehovah never wavered. On Thursday, March 7, 2019, Moses McCain passed with peace and grace. He was 88. He is predeceased by his wife Helen McCain; daughter Regina (Daniel) Thomas; brothers, Clarence McCain, Wilbert McCain, James McCain, Page McCain, Squire McCain, Junior McCain, and Edward McCain; sisters, Ida Jones, Cora Mobley, Bettie Holloway, Mamie Tatum, Lillie McCain and Mary Roberts. He is survived by grandchildren Aaron Thomas, and Ashley Thomas; brothers, Alonzo McCain, Robert McCain, William McCain, Otis McCain, John McCain; sisters, Louise McCain, Pearlene Crawford, Mabel Sanderson, Rachel Cargill, Peggy McCoy, Shirley Miller, Dorothy Brown, Wanda Neal and Lynnamae Evans; great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends. Moses McCain was a gentle, kind-hearted, wonderful man who was loved, is missed and will always be cherished. Service officiated by Daniel Yates, Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses Congregation, 70 Cedar Hill Road, Asheville, NC 28806 Memorial services will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, March 16, 2019 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with Mr. Daniel Yates officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 till 3 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
