Millicent Braden

Black Mountain Millicent Bristow Braden, 92, of 5 Llama Vista Court, passed away recently after a short illness at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. Proudly born on December 26, 1922 in Ivor, VA, she worked as a dental assistant in her early life, and later as a Relocation Specialist for the Miami-Dade County Transit Authority. During retirement, she volunteered for the Kiwanis Thrift Shop, Black Mountain Chamber of Commerce, the VA Hospital, and the Black Mountain Womens Correctional Institution. She also hosted an international exchange student from Spain for one school year and visited the house-bound for Black Mountain United Methodist Church. Mrs. Braden was a daughter of the late Richard E. Bristow and Caroline Collier Bristow. She was also preceded in death by her former husband, John Stuart Braden, Sr.; son, John Stuart Braden, Jr. (Composer); her sisters, Margaret and Kathryn; and brother, Richard. Surviving are her daughter, Georgia Braden Rohan and husband, Larry, of Asheville; grandchildren, Tiffany Rohan-Williams (Antar), Larry Rohan, Jr. (girlfriend Jill) and Douglas B. Rohan (Julia); great grandchildren, Dakota and Summer Williams, Lauren Rohan, Andres and Alex Almirall, and Vivian, Claudia and Evelyn Rohan; sister-in-law, Esther Bristow; niece, Mary Beth Bristow; nephews, Allen Bristow (Karen), Mike Bristow (Barbara) and Pat Bristow (Jaclyn). Memorial services will be held at 2 PM Saturday, January 24, 2015 at the Black Mountain United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike MacDonald & Rev. Rick Mills officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following services at the church.
