Miles Jason Trantham

August 28, 1929 — September 12, 2008

Fairview - Miles Jason Trantham, 79, of 26 Poverty Ridge, passed away Friday, September 12, 2008 at the John F. Keever Solace Center following an extended illness. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County. He had served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Laurel Pines Baptist Church. Mr. Trantham retired in 1988 having served as a Police Officer for the Asheville Police Department for 28 years. He was the son of the late Curtis D. and Thelma Reed Trantham and was also preceded in death by 3 brothers and 1 sister. Surviving are his wife, Shirley Trantham of the home; daughter, Linda Trantham Bates and husband Mark of Fairview; grandsons, Jason Bates and wife Kerry and Jordan Bates all of Fairview; grand daughters, Lauren and Lindsay Bates both of Fairview; brother, Kenneth Trantham of Rutherfordton; sisters, Margaret Pressley of Reidsville and Carolyn Bowen of Rutherfordton. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Pastor Tony Parham and Brother Jeff Bowen officiating. Burial will be in the WNC State Veterans Cemetery with military honors conducted by the NC National Guard Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
