Mildred Rice Jones

Asheville - Mildred Mae Calloway Rice Jones, 80, of 345 Weaverville Highway died Monday, September 6, 2004 at her residence following a period of declining health. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County and a daughter of the late Charlie Columbus Calloway and Flossie Tesner Calloway and was also preceded in death by her grandson, Frankie. She reitired in 1978 as an Elevator Operator with Appalachian Hall and formerly attended Barnardsville Church of God. Surviving are her former husband, George Jones of the home; daughters, Ruth Ledford and husband, Jimmy of Weaverville, Wanda Bearden, Delores Harper and Alice Cruz all of Asheville; her 3 sisters, 2 brothers, 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Haynes and Rev. Clyde Metcalf, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and at other times will be at the home of Ruth and Jimmy Ledford, 87 Dula Springs Rd. Weaverville.
