Mildred K. Schutte, 92, passed away Friday, October 14, 2016 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals. A native of Richmond, VA she resided in Candler since 1963. She was the daughter of the late Leo Curtis Kirkman and Mildred Kirkman Dean; she was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Samuel Schutte who passed on November 24, 2009. Mrs. Schutte was a graduate of Mars Hill College where she obtained her degree in teaching, and for more than 30 years, she worked with the Buncombe County School System teaching Special Education. She was also a member of RATS (Retired Art Teachers), and Mount Pisgah Academy Seventh Day Adventist Church. Surviving are her children: T. Samuel Schutte and wife Connie of Oklahoma City, OK, Karen Schutte of the home, Tootie Mrotek and husband Dusty of Asheville, and Bill and Mary Taylor of Richmond, VA; seven grandchildren: Tad Schutte, Calvin Schutte, Ginger Manning, April Dunbar, Nicholas Blackmon, Heather Heffel, and Billy Blackmon; eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Curtis Maree Farley of Laurel, MD; sister-in-law, Gloria Bareford and husband Ed of Richmond, VA; brothers-in-law: Leslie Schutte and wife Lottie of Arkansas, and Dr. Harold Schutte and wife Margie of Biltmore Lake; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Saturday, October 22, 2016 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery.
