Candler Michael Dale Mike Messer, 62, of Candler, went home to be with the Lord Friday, October 23, 2015 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals. A native of Waynesville and a lifelong resident of Candler, Mike was a 1971 graduate of Enka High School and was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. He was the retired founder of Mikes Heating and Cooling, and was a former racecar driver on many of the NASCAR tracks throughout the Southeast. Mike was an avid car enthusiast and also enjoyed fishing and spending time in his garage. He will be remembered as a very loving and selfless person. Mike was the son of Edith Sue Vance Messer of Candler and the late William Clyde Messer. In addition to his mother, surviving are his wife, Kim Messer, whom he married September 6, 1998; sisters: Vickie Ruth Messer Childers and husband Morris, and Donna Lynn Messer Dorlan and husband Scotty, all of Candler; brother, David Lee Messer and wife Pat of Candler; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 5:00 PM Monday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with Pastor Gene King officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Parkinsons Disease Foundation by going to www.pdf.org. The family would like to offer a special Thank You to the many friends who showed their love by spending time with Mike over the past few years. They would also like to wish heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Mission Hospitals Neuro-Trauma ICU for the loving and compassionate care shown to Mike.
