Asheville - Michael Gene Mike Alexander, 63, of 88 Tipperary Drive, passed away Monday, June 9, 2008 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals. A native of Kings Mountain, NC, he had resided in Buncombe County for most of his life. He served as Sergeant with the Asheville Police Department for 21 years, and was a US Army veteran. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. Mr. Alexander was the son of the late Ray Gordon and Martha Genell Hensley Alexander. Surviving are his wife, Jan Hollifield Alexander, of the home; two children: Martha Dale Alexander of Spartanburg, SC, and Michael Douglas Alexander of Asheville; sisters: Kaye Lynce of Waynesville, Pat Hyder of Gastonia, and Debbie Wilson of Black Mountain; brothers: Bobby Alexander of Gastonia and Danny Alexander of Valdese; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 12:00 noon Thursday in the chapel of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, with the Rev. Steve Brockwell officiating. The family will receive friends after 6 PM Wednesday at the home, 88 Tipperary Drive, Asheville, and from 10-11 AM Thursday at Gods Filling Station Full Gospel Church, 503 Johnston School Road, Asheville. Memorial donations may be made to the Fraternal Order of Police, Harold C. Enloe Lodge #1, PO Box 271, Asheville, NC 28802. Anders-Rice Funeral Home is assisting the Alexander family.
