Michael Dean Smith, 56, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 13, 2018 at his residence. A native and lifelong resident of Asheville, he was a son of Joan Lunsford Smith of Asheville, and the late David Leon Smith. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents: James Cecil Lunsford and Ethel Corn Lunsford, and Theodore Smith and Novell Blankenship Smith; and his great-grandparents: Carl and Willie Laster Corn. Michael was of the Baptist faith and a graduate of Clyde A. Erwin High School. He later worked with Greyhound Bus Lines in Asheville and then became the youngest Owner and Operator of the Trailways and Greyhound Bus Station located in Orangeburg, SC. Later he sold produce for many years from the Asheville Farmers Market. Surviving in addition to his mother are his daughters: Kimberly Christine Buchanan and husband Kyle of Sweetwater, TN, and Michaela Shea Rogers and husband Tyler of Mars Hill; grandchildren: Vera Buchanan, and Levi Rogers; brother, Jimmy Smith and wife Tracy of Candler; niece, Courtney Smith, nephew, David Smith, and special friend, Pat Gant. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Saturday, August 18, 2018, in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Revs. Bynum Orr, Earl Jones, and Jimmy Page officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 AM till 12:45 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
