Michael C. Roberts

Asheville Michael Clay Roberts, I, 57, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 7, 2017 at his residence surrounded by family. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was the son of Joyce Payne Roberts of Naples, FL, and the late John William Roberts. In addition to his father was preceded in death by his sisters: Beth Elizabeth Roberts and Kathy Owenby. Michael was a US Army Veteran and Deacon at Ridgeview Missionary Baptist Church. He worked for the City of Asheville for 19 years in various positions until retiring from Water Maintenance in 2002. Michael enjoyed growing flowers, and was loved by all who knew him. Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Lynn Roberts; children: Michael Clay Roberts, II and wife Crystal of Alexander, and Virginia Jenny Waldrop of Candler; grandchildren: Joleana Waldrop, Brianna Roberts, Joanna Roberts, and Christopher Roberts; sisters: Rebecca Roberts of Gastonia, and Karen Honeycutt and husband Tim of Naples, FL; mother-in-law, Dorothy Yearout of Asheville; and several nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Monday, July 10, 2017 at Ridgeview Missionary Baptist Church, with Pastor Jeff Burchett and Pastor Ervin Nash officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with Military Honors by the N.C. National Guard Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 7 till 9 PM at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
