Melvin Lunsford

Candler - Melvin Lunsford, 74, of 345 Starnes Cove Rd. died Saturday, May 29, 2004 at Mission Hospitals. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a member of Midway Baptist Church. Mr. Lunsford was the son of the late Nelson Garfield and Pauline Gladys Sawyer Lunsford. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Juanita Raines, Lois Turbyfill, Viola Smith, Rosalee Mathis, Ollie Harper and Mae Franklin and his brother, Paul Lunsford. Surviving are his wife, Mildred Lollis Lunsford of the home; sons, Melvin Louis Lunsford and wife Wanda Sue of Iva, SC and Marvin Lee Lunsford and wife Rosanne of Candler; daughters, Teena Lunsford Rice of West Asheville and Teresa Lunsford Barnwell and husband Walter of Hendersonville; sisters, Aretta Lunsford of Brevard and Olene Freeman of Greenville, SC; brothers, Alvin Lunsford of Bowman, SC, Boyce Lunsford of Rosman, Larry Lunsford of Asheville and Steve Lunsford of Hendersonville; 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Tuesday in the Anders-Rice Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Waymon Dotson and Mr. Donald Wooten officiating. Burial will be in Pisgah View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 PM Monday at the funeral home.
