Asheville - Maynard Walter Curtis, 86, of 115 Raleigh Road died Monday December 15, 2003 at his home following a period of declining health. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he retired from Bowman Transportation Co. after 29 years of service as a truck driver. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp. He was a son of the late Walter Curtis and Janie Dotson Curtis Wilson and the husband of the late Virginia Smith Curtis who died December 19, 2002. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Patsy Curtis and a son, Dean Curtis. Surviving are his sons, Ken Curtis of Black Mtn. and Robert Sonny Curtis and wife Lisa of Fletcher; daughter, Wanda Roland of Black Mtn.; sister, Susie Pettit of Asheville; brothers, Alvin Wilson and Rev. H. L. Wilson both of Asheville and Jimmy Doc Wilson of Marshall; 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. H. L. Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the Gashes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.
