Maurice Norman Whitaker

Weaverville - Maurice Norman Whitaker, 59, of 26 Sugar Hill Drive, died Thursday June 3, 2004 at Memorial Mission Hospital following a brief illness. A native of Buncombe County, he had lived in Raleigh for several years before moving back to Buncombe County. He retired from the North Carolina Department of Human Resources. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a son of the late William Judson and Thelma Briggs Whitaker. Surviving are his son, Al Judson Whitaker of Weaverville; daughter, Karen Michelle Whitaker of Raleigh; brother, Marion Judson Whitaker of Weaverville and ex-wife, Nancy McFee Whitaker of Candler. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Ploch and Rev. Dr. Buddy Corbin officiating. Burial will be in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain with military rites provided by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Volunteer Memorial Team.
