Mary Alta Looney

Mary Alta Looney, 91, of Asheville, went to be with her Lord on Friday, February 21, 2014 at her home. A native of Rutherford County she resided in Buncombe County most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Authur Lee Hill and Esma Searcy Hill. She is also preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Dewey Strouse Looney; a sister, and four brothers. Mrs. Looney retired in 1987 from the Mars-White Knight Mfg. Company and was formerly employed for many years with American Indian Company. She attended State Street Church of God and formerly was the longest living member of Pentecostal Tabernacle where she had served as: Pastor, Sunday School Teacher, Choir Leader, and many other functions within the church. She loved the Lord and spent much time in prayer and studying His word. Her greatest enjoyment came from her four grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. She is survived by her daughter, Bunny Joy Sams and her husband Howard of Asheville; grandchildren: Kelly Sams of Asheville, Angel Sams of Raleigh, Brandon Sams and his wife Jennifer of Rock Hill, SC, and Tara Sams of Asheville; sister, Lottie Watkins of Asheville; and by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, February 24, 2014 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with Rev. Kevin Chapman officiating. Burial will follow at Bethany United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 till 6:00 PM Sunday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
