Asheville Brigadier Martha Ann Anders Herring was promoted to Glory on Thursday, February 25, 2016. A native of Asheville, North Carolina, Cadet Martha Anders, a member of the Hold Fast session of training was commissioned a Probationary Lieutenant on May 27, 1940. In describing her personal experience prior to entering the training college she wrote, And my prayer is, that I may let the Lord have His way in my life, and that I might do much in helping others, to find Jesus. Married to her husband Eugene, in April, 1945, together they served in corps and staff appointments throughout the South for the next 41 years including North Carolina, Alabama, Texas, Maryland and Florida. Their joy later was compounded with the birth of their daughter, Noble Ann. Together they retired to Asheville in 1981 and lived here until their deaths. Martha will forever be known for her strong biblical teaching, her gift of encouragement and her profound, yet simple, wise counsel. She was a faithful soldier of the Asheville corps until her health began to fail. Her evangelistic spirit and prayerful support of others are proved in the lives that have been changed as a result of knowing her. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Monday, February 29, 2016 at the Salvation Army Church with Major Mark R. Satterlee officiating. Graveside Services will be held at a later date in Tamaqua, PA under the direction of Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home.
