Asheville Mark Stephen McCoy, 85, of 10 Brinkley Drive, went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 5, 2017 at the Charles George VA Medical Center. A native of Jefferson, TN, he had resided in Asheville for most of his life and was a retired commercial painter. He was a member of Asheville Family Church, where he also served as a Deacon and was a Korean War veteran, having served in the US Army where he was a recipient of the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars and Purple Heart. Mr. McCoy was a son of the late Robert Kelley McCoy and Minnie Jane McCoy and was the husband of Mable Franks McCoy who died April 12, 1998. He was also preceded in death by his four children, Jack, Bobby, Jean and Lois. Surviving are his children, Linda Crane, Dale McCoy and wife Melinda and Alan McCoy all of Asheville; sisters, Linda McCoy, Mary Worley and Rachel Thacher; brother, Andrew McCoy; 7 grandchildren; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Asheville Family Church with Rev. Rolf Woodard officiating. Burial will be in Gashes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors provided by the NC National Guard Honor Team. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 AM Thursday at the church.
