Marie Penley

Leicester - Marie Penley, 94, of 97 Sluder Branch Road went to be with her Lord Tuesday, August 8, 2006 at her home following an extended illness.. A native of Yancey County and a resident of Buncombe County since 1924. Mrs. Penley retired in 1974 as manager from Rock Haven Motel and was a member of Newfound Baptist Church where she was a member of the Della Ladies Sunday School Class. She was the daughter of the late Nathaniel R. and Flora Angel Honeycutt and the wife of Clinton O. Penley who died September 16, 1978. Surviving her sister, Pearl Ligon and husband, Fred of Leicester; brothers, Ernest Honeycutt and wife, Ruby of Leicester and Boyd Honeycutt of Spencer. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Newfound Baptist Church with John, David and Mark Honeycutt and Wallace Steward, Jesse Ramsey and Jim Cook serving as pallbearers.
