April 29, 1925 — October 5, 2016

Alexander Essie Marie Haney Bishop, 91, of Fletcher Martin Road, passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was a homemaker and active member of French Broad Baptist Church since 1940. Mrs. Bishop was the daughter of the late Toney Oscar Haney and Mamie Adeline Allman Haney and wife of Ulus Curtis Bishop who died October 24, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Aileen Haney. Surviving are her daughters, Teresa Marie McPeters (Roy McPeters) and Vivian Sheila Malone (Ron Malone) all of Alexander; grandchildren, Natalie McPeters Rutland and husband Jarrett of Asheville, Nathan Malone and wife Kelly of Alexander and Carrie Malone Brown and husband Chris of Weaverville; great grandsons, Zack and Connor and a third great grandson due January 2017 and several cousins who were all close to her, including Jennie Sluder who was like a sister. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Saturday, October 8, 2016 at French Broad Baptist Church with Rev. Dean Haney and Rev. Dewayne Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the French Broad Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Friday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home. A special thanks to all the staff at CarePartners Adult Day Care Center, John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center, Margaret Griffin and Mandy Embler who lovingly helped care for our mom.
